CHEMIGRAMS

My foray into chemigrams* started as a resistance to how I can only book the college darkroom for blocks of 3 hours, which also comes with free light leaks in the room. What can I do with the darkroom materials without using the darkroom? If photography is about painting with light, must the image be a recording through the lens or an enlargement/contact print? and of course, the practice itself blurs the boundaries between different practices like photography, painting and printmaking.

If I am feeling romantic, the chemigram allows me to express myself spontaneously like any water medium, but trying to balance between chance and technique. It is like a reverse ink painting - the image appeared only shortly after I apply the darkroom chemical, which is my choice of ink.

*A Chemigram is a piece of art made by painting chemicals on light-sensitive paper.
